Development Manager

The Development Manager is responsible for raising $150,000 annually from corporate and individual donors, managing the growth of key community engagement events, and developing relationships with second-tier donor caseload, while ensuring comprehensive donor acknowledgment and stewardship.

The scope of this position is central to advancing the annual engagement and funding goals of the organization. The Development Manager will serve as a bridge between the corporate partners, support volunteer engagement, and ensure our organization operates in line with Elevate Indianapolis’s mission, vision, and values. The Development Manager reports directly to the CEO.  The focus of the Development Manager in the mission-furthering engagement work of Elevate Indianapolis will:

·       Manage a caseload of relationships with area companies and sponsors.

·       Second team donor caseload of 75 individual donors, currently ranging from $500-$2,500 annually.

·       Supporting the volunteer opportunities for individual and corporate donors.

·       Build current and cultivate new relationships to solicit corporate funding opportunities and partnerships to achieve the funding goals of Elevate.

Core Process Ownership:

●      Core Process #3, Fundraising: Direct management and support to the CEO to achieve annual development SMART goals in alignment with established processes.

●      Core Process #6 Community Engagement: Support in collaboration with the leadership team to achieve annual engagement metrics and goals, in alignment with established processes.

Responsibilities

Corporate Engagement & Fundraising (40%)

 

·       Manages annual service-learning projects with corporate partners, student serving opportunities, and outcomes according to annual goals.

·       Seeks and coordinates corporate partners for engagement opportunities with Elevate staff and students.

·       Corporate engagement presentations to current and new company partners.

·       Leadership and communication in all areas of donor engagement, event planning, and partner collaboration as assigned.

·       Network and Interact regularly with current and potential volunteers and corporate partners.

·       Solicitation of corporate financial sponsorship for development and engagement events.

·       Attends community outreach at civic clubs, colleges, companies, NPOs, and young professionals.

·       Volunteer outreach, solicitation, and management of the volunteer database.

·       Support all site visits and support corporate engagement events.

 

Individual Donor Caseload Relationship Building & Fundraising (35%):

·       Second-tier donor caseload communication and management for 75 individual donors, with current giving-range of $500-$2,500 annually.

·       Quarterly donor communication and updates via text, call, and/or in-person updates.

·       Recruitment and connection to regular volunteer opportunities for donors.

 

Grant Development Management Support (15%):

Support the CEO in the Grants Development Management Program for grant writing, submission, and recognition.

●      Support the administration and submission of the grant application, review, and award processes.

●      Monitor and track grant-funded projects to ensure alignment with program goals and effective use of funds.

●      Support grant writer needs for all grant submissions, including gathering LOS, UEI #, impact data inclusion, and other key documents to support the grant completion process.

●      Collect testimonials and photos to be utilized in fundraising collateral.

 

Donor Acknowledgment & Stewardship (10%):

●      Develop and maintain robust donor acknowledgment and stewardship efforts.

●      Ensure timely and personalized gift acknowledgments for donors.

●      Prepare regular updates and reports for donors on the impact of their contributions.

●      Enter and monitor donor data into Salesforce to include notes on donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.

●      Prepare the annual tax mailing giving statements for individual donors.

 

Metrics & Impact of the Role:

●      Work with the Elevate executive staff for the development of the annual communication calendar and SMART goals, along with donor giving goals.

●      EOS weekly numbers dashboard update in the following current areas of impact as determined.

Essential Job Qualifications

●      Ability to think strategically, anticipate future consequences and trends, and incorporate them into the development plan.

●      An undergraduate degree is required; an MBA or similar advanced degree is preferred.

●      Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, or a similar role within a nonprofit organization.

●      Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives.

●      Proficiency in donor management software and data analysis. Knowledge of Salesforce is a plus.

●      Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with donors, partners, and stakeholders.

●      Experience and passion for educational and socio-economic equity, and commitment to helping under-supported students overcome.

●      Knowledge of the Indianapolis education landscape and non-profits, and familiarity with the challenges faced by public schools, is a plus.

●      Entrepreneurial Operating System — Experience and/or ability to learn and adhere to EOS systems and implementation throughout all areas of engagement and fundraising SMART goals.

●      In-person — This is an in-person position with occasional flexibility to work from home as approved in advance. Flexibility to shift work hours for evenings and weekend events required as needed.

●      Professional Development — Stays current in the nonprofit field by reading nonprofit, education, and youth service literature, articles, and news stories, and participating in outside organizational meetings, conferences, and seminars, as appropriate.

●      Driver’s License — Valid Indiana Driver’s License and Proof of Insurance

●      Travel/Overnight Experiences — Willingness to attend professional development and student programming that might be overnight and out of state as required.

Benefits

·       Starting range of $55,000-$70,000, depending on relevant experience.
